The very rich cultural heritage of Girona’s old town introduces the world of flower arrangement during the famous event “Girona, Flower Time”. This event brings new displays and compositions characterized by fantastic visual fullness.

This festival takes place during spring time, when flowers bloom (it’s usually the third week of May; in 2008 the dates were from the 10th to18th of May). The whole city is full of bright flowers and artistic compositions during this event, underlining the link between nature and art. The event was a recently created and its aim is mainly touristic, promotional and commercial. It started in 1955 with a simple flower exposition in the Sant Domenec church, which is now know as the Municipal Theatre. The event was organized by the women of the city and this tradition has still been kept. Little by little, the festival began to develop and is now held every year in the same place.

In the 90’s, the mayor of Girona decided to convert this small festival into a large exposition in order to target the whole city. This included the monuments, artistic areas and inner courtyards of the historical centre being opened to the public. This is when the big festival was truly born and name the “Temps de flor de Girona”. All the arrangements are created by local artists, influenced by the city.
