There are many bands in Berlin, with mainly German lyrics that drive people wild. Berlin is a good starting point for musicians, as there are many ways to perform new songs; experimental songs are always welcome in Berlin. There are many successful bands that began in Berlin and that have seen success for many years. Here is a short overview of the bands which have grown from Berlin roots.

Die Ärzte (The doctors) - The best band in the world! Since the early 80s die Ärzte have bin causing mischief in Berlin and the whole of Germany. Always very un-politically correct and with a wide grin on their faces, you can see that the three stars undoubtedly enjoy their job. By appearing on the best sellers list time after time, they have made German music history. Die Ärzte are very well-known and therefore have a big, long-time fan based community. Die Ärzte still remains close to its audience and its members have managed to keep both feet on the ground. The band is often on tour and can offer its fans an unforgettable show without touching any junk like many other bands. This summer they will go on tour in Germany with their new album, JÄZZFEST. You will also have the chance to see Die Ärzte in several festivals throughout Europe.

MIA (Music is all) - was founded in 1997 in Berlin as a school band. Mieze and Andi, born in Berlin in 1997, attended the John-Lennon grammar school together in Berlin, were they were presented by their schoolmate Sarah Kuttner, trendy TV presenter, to the rest of the band. From here on, the band was created and they started to create their own stamp on German music. The name MIA derives from the old band name ‘Me In Affairs’. Today the group associates the abbreviation, MIA, with other things like ‘Music Is all’. In May 2006, their single “Moleküle” jumped into the Top 20 of the German charts and is the most successful single in the band’s history so far.

Wir sind Helden (We are heroes) – Guten Tag! Good day! Quite inconspicuously, this band brought back 80s music and started a revival in Germany. Here comes the New Wave of New Wave - NDW (Norddeutsche Welle= North German wave). Wir sind Helden calls their type of music, ‘SynthiePunkPop’. The lead singer of the Quartet is Judith Holofernes; she writes and sings the lyrics and with youth and anger on her side, does so with real passion. The first two singles “Guten Tag” and “Müssen nur wollen” flew off the shelves, the concerts are always full and there is always something new for the fans.

These bands are fan-oriented bands which are always on tour and love their profession. If you want to see these bands live, just go to one of their concerts in Berlin. This city will blow you away! The east side is recommendable for the best accommodation (Unterkunft Berlin) as there is a large choice of rental apartments (Ferienwohnung in Berlin) and hotels (Berlin Hotel).
