Wedding MC: Party Activities
The question of who is going to be the lucky recipient of the table centrepiece is very often a central discussion at the wedding reception dining tables, particularly if the table centrepiece is particularly pretty or unique.
Creating a party activity of who gets the table centrepiece, is usually a pleasing play and one many wedding guests will like taking part in. Here are some ideas for awarding that reception table centerpiece.
One of the most favored ways the bride and groom give away the table centerpieces is to place a number on the bottom of the table centrepiece and give every guest a number. During the reception, a number is called, each guest checks her or his number and whoever has the called number gets the table centrepiece. There are many ways to put your own twist on this long established party activity.
Another entertaining activity for handing out the table centrepieces is to require the guests to produce a particular item. The wedding MC moves from table to table, announcing what the guests at that table will have to produce if they want to win the centerpiece. For example, it could be a a mint or a Georgia quarter, or a dentist’s appointment card. Whatever it is, the guest at each table who manages to produce the requested item will be awarded the table centrepiece.
You can always make it really easy and award the the table, or the one who took the longest time to finish college. Or you could organize an activity where the person who has the most peculiar talent (as voted on by those at the same table) is awarded the table centrepiece. Then, if possible, that person demontrates the talent for the entire reception party.
If you like musical chairs, you can play a game of musical dollar bills in order to award the centrepiece. One guest at each table takes out a one-dollar note and music starts playing. Everyone at the table passes the dollar note around the table and when the music stops, whoever is left holding the dollar note gets the table centrepiece. Or this party game can be played more traditionally with the person with the dollar note being eliminated, and the game continues until only one person is holding the dollar note. That one person wins the table centrepiece
Some enjoyable, and fairly traditional ideas include the birthday person getting the table centrepiece. At each table, the person whose birthday closest to the day of the wedding gets the table centrepiece. Or if there are married couples at the table, the couple who have been married the longest win the table centrepiece, or the couple who married the most recently. Or maybe the table centrepiece could be given to the person with the longest hair, or the strangest shoes (again, this would be voted on by tablemates).
Party activities are a good way for the wedding master of ceremonies to help wedding reception guests get to know their fellow guest.
