One of the most important part of a skateboard is the skateboard wheels. As with all parts of your skateboard, appearance is a big factor. You need to make sure your wheels look good with the rest of the skateboard. The other 2 factors are the hardness of the wheel and the diameter of the wheel. Larger wheels allow you to go faster. If you are doing a lot of skateboarding on ramps, you will want a larger wheel to get more speed so you can get more air. If you are going to be doing more tricks on the ground, you will probably want smaller wheels because they will be lighter and allow you to flip your skateboard easier. If you are going to do a lot of all terrain type skating, you may want to choose a softer wheel to give you a smoother ride. As with all of the elements of a complete skateboard, many skaters will be well served by getting a medium sized skateboard wheels of average hardness.

Abec 11 specializes in making larger wheels for downhill and slalom skating. The wheels are softer and considerably larger than normal skateboard wheels. The 97 mm Flywheels are twice the size of normal skateboard wheels. They also make Retro wheels.

Spitfire Skateboard Wheels
Spitfire skateboard wheels are some of the most popular wheels on the market. They are high quality skateboard wheels made in the United States and guaranteed to be defect free. Spitfire has a large selection of wheels including special vented wheels that are supposed to go faster.

Mini Logo Skateboard Wheels
Mini Logo wheels are made by a division of Powell. The idea is that you get the same wheels Powell markets without the fancy logos or pro skater endorsements. The wheels won’t look as good as the premium wheels, but will perform the same. This way you get high quality skateboard wheels without the high prices. Considering that the logos get worn off pretty quickly, this seems like a great option for wheels.

Ricta Skateboard Wheels
Ricta makes several different type of good quality skateboard wheels. They make one type of specialty wheel called the Ricta 78 which is a soft wheel sometimes called jelly wheels. These wheels are specifically designed for cruising and aren’t any good for any other type of skateboarding. Kryptonics has been making skateboard wheels since 1965 and they produce some great long lasting wheels that have great grip. They make some really nice, colorful wheels that look fantastic when matched with the right skateboard.

Bones Skateboard Wheels
Bones makes some really good skateboard wheels. They have special wheels for street, skate park, and ditch skateboarding. The wheels are designed to avoid getting flat spots from sliding. They also make a wheel called the Bones 100s which are a great combination of high quality and good price.

Pro Company Skateboard Wheels
There are tons of other skateboard wheels available. Virtually every professional skateboard company offers their own specialty wheels now. If Plan B is your favorite, you can get Plan B wheels to match your deck. Birdhouse, Element, and many of the other big companies do the same. You may not get the specialty wheels this way, but for most skateboarders, looking good is the top priority anyways so matching wheels are great!
