Lucid Dreaming: Dispelling 3 Myths
One of the most popular topics about dreams is lucid dreaming. The most basic description of lucid dreaming is being conscious you are in a dream without waking up. But with its great popularity comes many misconceptions.
The first myth about lucid dreaming is that, once you are conscious, you can control the dream.. In actuality, most dreamers find they can focus on manipulating some dream imagery, but complete control is impossible. It’s more accurate to say that you have more self-control in lucid dreams, and can focus on making choices that are present themselves in the dream.
Another untrue story about lucid dreaming is that you can die in real life if you die in the dream. Not true! In fact, whenever a dreamer feels too threatened in a lucid dream, he or she has the power to wake themselves up. Even if you do experience a dream “death,” you are safe in bed and will only experience a quicker heart rate, if anything.
One last untrue story about lucid dreaming is that they are exhausting and ruin your good night’s sleep. In actuality, the opposite is true. Indeed, many dreamers say they have more energy the next day. Scientifically, most lucid dreams occur during the REM state, so your body is still getting the rest it needs.
Hopefully I have helped separate truth from fiction so more people won’t be afraid the next time they become “lucid” in their dreams.
