Being A Jesus Billboard through Christian T-shirts

March 30th, 2008

Lifestyle evangelism begins with demonstrating to the world through our normal behavior and activities who we are and why we are different as Christians. And the world notices. A great way to get their attention is by wearing our witness by putting Bible sayings on our bodies.

Not everyoe goes to church or is esposed to Christians through ministries or normal religious circles. But in the so-called “real world,” out there in the marketplace, with Bible sayings we sure can.

Most non-believing Americans are turned off by the institutional church and don’t have a biblical understanding about God and Jesus, yet they believe Jesus makes a positive difference in a person’s life and would enjoy an honest discussion with a friend about spiritual matters and Reaching others for Jesus..

Those are just a few of the findings from a new study of unchurched Americans conducted by LifeWay Research, a research company that specializes in Lifestyle evangelism.

The results of the study, which polled 1,402 adults who had not attended a religious service at a church, synagogue or mosque in the previous six months, have important implications for Christian churches and individuals who want to effectively reach unchurched people by Lifestyle evangelism. And they underscore why wearing Reaching others for Jesus works for everyday conversations about Christ.

“A full 72 percent of the people interviewed said they think the church ‘is full of hypocrites,’” the study said. “At the same time, however, 71 percent of the respondents said they believe Jesus ‘makes a positive difference in a person’s life’ and 78 percent said they would ‘be willing to listen’ to someone who wanted to talk what they believed about Christianity through Christian witnessing.”

Wearing Bible sayings gives real people in real situations an opportunity to share Christ in non-threatening or institutional settings. We know our job as believers is to tell the world of the hope we truly have in Jesus.

That means we can practice evangelism by becoming a walking billboard. If you need inspiration, think of the words of the great apostle Paul who told the Corinthian church, that we are to consider ourselves “Christ’s ambassadors… as if God was making his appeal through us.”

There’s an old cliche that says that the Christian may be the only Bible some people read. How much easier it is if there’s a Bible verse across our shirt.

Sharing Christ involves a lot more than just talking. It means being lights in a dark world.
