Start Again With Your Cute Baby

May 10th, 2008

How many people wish they could lead part of their life over again if they had the opportunity? How many people would do things a little differently if the opportunity were given to them? To say many, in my view, would be a major understatement. No matter who we are, what we have, what our occupation, there always seems to be a wish to change events of the past but also recognizing that only the future has that potential.

There is a new chance that some of us our very fortunate to have, and that chance comes in the form with the birth of a baby. To see how this may gave you a chance is to understand a new baby saying by George Bernard Shaw,
“Life is a flame that is always burning itself out, but it catches fire again every time a child is born.”

Each new born gives us a chance to redevelop our capacity to show our love, to demonstrate to our newborn a love and caring that sees them cradled, hugged, kissed, nourished and cherished. Each cute baby brings with it an opportunity to reflect on how differently, if any, we would liked to have been loved, to provide the environment that ensures their safety and well-being, to be able to provide on-going encouragement to grow, to laugh, and to learn to show their own love and caring by modeling the observed and felt expressions from parents.

We also have an opportunity to help others review options in life, to speak with them about differences in careers, or to support them in their choice of callings even though their choice wouldn’t have been an obvious choice we’d have made. We have the choice to show our undivided attention to their needs from little ones to big ones where every year demands a whole new set of expectations, and a whole new chance to contribute in a positive way to the development of another human being.

And, if you happen to be a grandparent, you know how much you can influence a child as he/she grows to know you, and to show their desire to come and visit. Maybe it’s the baby poems you read or make up, or the bedtime stories that you read to them because you never experienced this comfort, attention and joy as a child. Maybe it’s the opportunity to take your grandchild or children on a special trip that will plant memories of love, fun, and comradeship within them to carry forward to their own future families.

When your chance comes whether parent, aunt, uncle, or grandparent, make the most of your opportunity to leave a legacy of warmth, caring, advice and love.
