7 Common Prostate Symptoms That Warrant Further Investigation
Nearly all men will run into prostate of some sort as they grow older with problems frequently beginning at about 50 years of age. By 60 roughly one in two men will be affected and by 80 years of age nine out of every ten men will be experiencing some prostate symptoms.
In very many cases symptoms will be fairly mild and, because at this time in life almost all of us are starting to develop a range of medical problems, we tend to simply ignore prostate symptoms as being nothing more than a normal part of the ageing process. Many times this is fine since the majority of prostate problems are not serious and, as long as the symptoms don’t worry you too much you can live with them quite happily and they will not do you any real harm.
Unhappily however in all too many cases prostate cancer is present and if this is ignored it will eventually spread and probably kill you. As a matter of fact, prostate cancer is responsible for the second highest cancer death toll in the the United States today.
There are several symptoms that might point to developing problems but, as with a lot of things, these symptoms can also be caused by a wide range of different problems. In the majority of cases however when the symptoms are not the result of prostate problems they will tend to be short lived, resulting possibly from a simple infection that clears up in a week or two without any need for treatment. If however any of these symptoms start appearing on a regular basis or pop up and stay with you then it is a fair bet that they are coming from an enlarged prostate gland. Prostate symptoms could include:
1. Problems with starting to urinate and a need to strain in order to start urinating.
2. A weak urine flow.
3. A tendency for the flow of urine to stop and start.
4. A feeling that you have not emptied your bladder even after you have just been to the toilet.
5. A feeling that you need to visit the bathroom urgently together with problems in “holding on”.
6. The need for more frequent trips to the toilet and the need to get up through the night.
7. A tendency to dribble urine after you have finished in the toilet.
These symptoms are your body’s warning signs that problems may be starting to develop and, whilst in almost all cases this is not serious and nothing to be concerned about, for all too many men these turn out to be the warning signs of a serious and all too often deadly condition.
The only way to discover whether you fall into the former or the latter category is get yourself checked out by your physician who will do a couple of tests including a simple and effective digital rectal exam.
