Taste Like Crackers
The Alamac dictates that crackers originated in New England. John Pearson, who was from Newburyport, Massachusetts created a bread product which was cracker-like. This bread or cracker was of just water and flour. He named this the pilot bread. This became popular among sailors due to its long expiry date. It was also known as sea biscuit or hardtack.
The cracker got it’s name way back in 1801, when another dude from Massachusetts by the name of Josiah Bent accidentally burnt some biscuits in the oven made of bricks. This dude was a baker and he heard some crackling noise coming from the burning of the biscuits. This cracking noise eventually grew into the name of this biscuit and Josiah Bent was able to persuade the entire world on how awesome his biscuits were. His business took off like a rocket in 1810 and eventually he sold his company which is now known as Nabisco.
All crackers generally have holes in them. These holes have a name. This name is called “docking”. The purpose of these holes are to prevent air pockets from developing during the backing process of these crackers.
In the United States of America, the distinction between a cracker and cookie is that the cracker is defined to be a boring plain biscuit with light salty flavour, where as a cookie has a sweet flavour.
There are many types of crackers recipe, such as cheese crackers, salt crackers, confetti crackers, cream crackers, etc. Crackers are usually served with soup. They crumbled into pieces and put into the soup. A mock apple pie is composed of crackers from Ritz.
These has been a long going debate whether or not animal crackers are indeed crackers or cookies. Some say these animal crackers are cracker, however, the definition of crackers are salty flavoured biscuit, yet these animal crackers are sweet. But they are made of layered dough which would classify them as crackers.
The greatest topping to put on a cracker is cheese. It’s the best.
