March 31st, 2008

If you are one of those people who are interested to learn how to make citrus wine, it would be a good idea for you to start looking for a vineyard where you can gain some experience in wine making. Yes, there are some schools that are offering courses on how to make wine but these schools can be quite expensive. Forget about that crash course on wine making on the internet too.

Wine making is an art that must be learned first hand. You need to feel the grapes in your hands and smell its aroma to be able to appreciate the art of wine making better. Working in a vineyard will not only give you the right experience in making wine, you actually get paid for your labor too. This means that you get to earn a living doing the things that you really want to do. Fine, working in a vineyard is hard work and it does not really pay as much as when you work in one of those high profile eight to five jobs but if you really want to make wine making a career, then you must do a little sacrifice to learn how to make wine.

Finding The Right Vineyard

Finding the right vineyard that will accept you can be tricky especially if you lack the necessary experience. Many winemakers are not really keen on hiring people who just want to gain experience in winemaking. Besides, if the winemaker knows what you are planning to do, he or she will think twice about letting you inside his or her premises. Many winemakers guard their trade secrets zealously that anytime they smell something fishy about their employees, they will not really hesitate to fire them.

How then can you find somebody who will teach you how to make grape wine? The best way for you to find someone to help you learn how to make wine is to stay close to home and work in a vineyard that is own by somebody you know. Once you have the necessary experience, you can move on to another vineyard which can offer you greater learning opportunities.

Since your goal is to eventually make and sell your own wine, start saving money to put up your own vineyard. You will need all the extra cash that you can find when you start your own business so be very careful with your money. You should also start building good relationship with banks and financial institution at this point so that you will have some leverage when you start asking for financial assistance from these companies later on.
